This twelve-month programme will provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake a career in research, either in industry or within an academic setting. The programme is based in the Henry Wellcome Centre for Biocatalysis at Exeter. Aspects of molecular biology, structural bioinformatics and drug design are addressed, including medicinal chemistry.
The training provided by experts in the School will qualify you to undertake a PhD or to gain employment in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries, which are among the strongest growth sectors of the UK economy. The programme will be based on a combination of taught modules, independent learning and an extended research project to be carried out either in industry or in association with industry at the University. Providing training at the leading edge of science and technology, the programme incorporates a substantial element of hands-on research experience, with enhanced experimental skills being gained alongside experienced research workers.
Entry requirements At least a Second Class Honours degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry or an appropriate chemical science.

7. Professional Skills.
8. A substantial research project is undertaken under supervision alongside experienced research workers within the School over a 9-month period.
9. Dissertation on a topic different from that of the research project.
