Job description
Function title: PhD Student
Patients with mutations in the CRB1 gene suffer from retinal degeneration leading to blindness. CRB1 plays an important role in the maintenance of photoreceptor cell polarity and cellular interactions between photoreceptors and M%uF895ller glia cells. The PhD student will study members of the CRB complex, e.g. MAGUK and PDZ proteins, by functional experiments in retina and brain. The PhD student will join a team of 5 postdocs, 1 PhD student and a research assistant that elucidates the cell biological pathways of CRB1 and interacting proteins in cell polarity and adhesion (Hum. Mol. Genet. 15 :2659-72; 15:1291-302; 15: R235-R243; J. Neurosci. 27:564-573).
Requirements
Required education/skills:We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic PhD student with a strong interest in molecular neurobiology and cell biology. The NIN provides a stimulating and ambitious environment. The candidate should have a university degree (MSc.) in biology, pharmacology or medical biology. The candidate should have experience with molecular biology techniques. The NIN is an equal opportunities employer.

Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2500 - 3000
Salary: scale 10.
Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2612
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: For a period of 4 years
Maximum hours per week: 38
Additional conditions of employment:
The gross salary coming with a fulltime appointment will amount to € 2.042,- per month in the 1st year and will gradually increase to a maximum of € 2.612,- per month in the 4th year (salary scale P, effective from 1 January 2009) of the Collective Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-Nederlandse Universiteiten), excluding 8% holiday pay and a 8.3% (effective from 1 January 2009) year-end bonus.We offer an extensive package of fringe benefits. The PhD student will participate in the Graduate School Neurosciences Amsterdam (http://www.onwa.med.vu.nl).
